Our Editorial Standards
Last updated June 2025
Ethics & Transparency
Trust is earned through transparency. These are the principles that guide every review, recommendation, and article we publish.
Editorial Independence
ChairNerd’s editorial team makes all product picks, testing decisions, and recommendation determinations independently. We never accept payment from manufacturers for reviews, placements, rankings, or favorable coverage. Our business model relies on reader trust, and we protect that trust above all else.
Our affiliate relationships — primarily with Amazon, Steelcase, Herman Miller, and other major retailers — are managed by a separate team that has no input into editorial decisions. Reviews are written and scores are assigned before any affiliate links are added. If the best chair for our readers doesn’t have an affiliate program, we still recommend it.
Our Commitments
- We never accept payment from manufacturers for reviews, placements, or rankings.
- Our editorial team operates independently from our affiliate partnerships team.
- Affiliate links are added after reviews are written, never before.
- We recommend the best product for the reader, not the one that pays us the most.
- Our commission rates are similar across retailers, removing financial bias.
How Products Are Selected
We choose which chairs to review through a combination of market research, reader feedback, and new product launches. No manufacturer can pay to be reviewed or featured.
01 — Market Research
We monitor industry trends, new releases, sales data, and emerging brands. Our team identifies chairs worth investigating based on innovation, popularity, and value.
02 — Reader Requests
We actively collect feedback from our community. If enough readers ask about a specific chair, we add it to our testing queue. Your voice directly shapes our coverage.
03 — New Releases
Major updates to flagship chairs (Aeron, Leap, Embody) and promising new entrants from established brands automatically trigger a full review cycle.
Testing Protocol & Scoring
Every chair undergoes our standardized 7-day testing protocol with multiple testers of different body types. We evaluate across five weighted categories: Ergonomics & Comfort (30%), Build Quality & Durability (25%), Adjustability (20%), Value for Money (15%), and Warranty & Support (10%). Each category receives a 1-5 score, and the weighted average produces the final rating.
Our testing is conducted in real work environments — not sterile labs. Testers use chairs for full 8+ hour workdays across a variety of tasks including focused work, video calls, and casual use. This real-world approach ensures our recommendations hold up in actual working conditions.
Affiliate Disclosure
ChairNerd participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other retailer affiliate programs. When you click a link on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you use our link or visit the retailer directly.
These commissions fund our testing operations — purchasing chairs, maintaining our testing facility, and compensating our editorial team. Without affiliate revenue, we could not provide the depth of testing and analysis that defines ChairNerd. We are grateful for your support.
Importantly, our commission rates are similar across all major retailers (typically 1-5%), which means there is no financial incentive to recommend one retailer over another. Our recommendations are based solely on what is best for you, the reader. For our full affiliate disclosure, please visit our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Content Update Policy
Office chair models evolve — manufacturers release design tweaks, adjust pricing, update warranties, and occasionally discontinue popular models. To ensure our recommendations remain accurate, we review and update our content on a structured schedule.
- Quarterly Reviews — All major reviews and buying guides are reviewed every three months for accuracy, pricing, and availability.
- Major Updates — When a product we cover receives a significant design change or price shift, we update the review within two weeks.
- Date Stamps — Every article displays both a published date and a last-updated date so you know how current the information is.
If you notice outdated information on any of our pages, we encourage you to reach out. Reader feedback is one of our most valuable sources for identifying content that needs attention. We aim to acknowledge all update requests within 48 hours.
Corrections Policy
Despite our best efforts, errors occasionally occur. When we discover a factual error in our content — whether internally or through a reader report — we correct it promptly and transparently. Minor corrections (typos, broken links, formatting issues) are fixed silently. Significant factual errors that could affect a purchasing decision are noted with a correction statement at the bottom of the article, including the date of correction and what was changed.
We welcome and actively seek reader feedback. If you believe you have found an error in any of our content, or if you disagree with one of our assessments, we want to hear from you. Our editorial team reviews every piece of feedback and responds as quickly as possible. Thoughtful corrections and constructive criticism help us improve and serve our readers better.
Report an Error or Send Feedback
We take accuracy seriously. If you have spotted an error or have feedback on our content, please email us at hello@chairnerd.com. We review every message and aim to respond within 48 hours.
